MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TECH
CLINICAL EQUIPMENT SUPPORT GROUP (rotating shift)

General Summary: Maintains, inspects, repairs and distributes portable patient care equipment to meet the needs of hospital staff and clinical personnel in the performance of their duties. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:

Responds to phone and EPIC requests for equipment and accurately processes documentation. Performs visual and clinical inspection of incoming equipment to ensure its accuracy and correct functioning within established standards.
Delivers, retrieves and cleans all associated equipment within the department. Equipment includes infusion pumps, pca pumps, enteral pumps, apm pumps, feeding pumps, IV pumps, SCD pumps, bair huggers, cooling blanket machines, cpm machines and epidural pumps.
Accurately inputs equipment information into the Medical Equipment Database and /or Asset Management Database and effectively uses the databases to track equipment location, availability for reallocation, and necessary preventative maintenance.
Attends weekly departmental conferences with the Director of Clinical Engineering Services (C.E.S.) to discuss mutual problems related to patient care equipment and the services provided.
Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
High school diploma or GED
Knowledge and understanding of the proper technique and usage of Universal Precautions
must be attained within the probationary period allotted
Knowledge of basic electronics is preferred

Skills:
Good organizational skills.
Must be able to communicate clearly
Typing and computer skills
Must be able to access information stored in the database and input information into the database

Abilities:
Ability to stand, walk, and bend 50% of the time
Ability to lift 20 pounds in order to move boxes of stock and equipment
Ability to operate basic test equipment
Ability to manipulate hand tools in order to process and maintain equipment.
Ability to read, understand and perform preventive maintenance procedures in conjunction
with the operation of electrically operated test equipment
Basic mechanical aptitude
