~SUPERVISOR PEDIATRIC SLEEP CENTER
General Summary:
Supervises the operation of the laboratory of the Pediatric Sleep Center, coordinating its diverse and multifaceted clinical and research endeavors under the direction of the Laboratory Director. Has 24 hour accountability for laboratory functioning.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees interviews and scheduling of clinic patients. Supervises monitoring of EtCO2 and SpO2 during clinic visits. Schedules patients for sleep studies as recommended by the medical director.
Coordinates the Pediatric Sleep Center: Supervises on a daily basis insuring technical coverage for all laboratory evaluations. Coordinates laboratory assessments to achieve study goals and directs technicians in this regard when necessary. Consults with Laboratory Director when necessary.
Arranges for all sleep recordings to be scored by technical staff (including self) in a timely manner.
Executes yearly performance appraisals of Pediatric Sleep Center technical and administrative personnel.
Makes certain necessary monitoring equipment is present and working for patients and ensures bedrooms are clean and orderly. Maintains adequate levels of supplies and linens.
Maintains competency in diagnostic testing procedures and technical proficiency with a wide variety of equipment. Directs maintenance of equipment in the Pediatric Sleep Center and assures that all equipment is in good working order. Liaisons with Medical Center Engineering to comply with institutional equipment safety policy.
Develops and implements in-service education and makes recommendations for continuing education for technicians. Prepares teaching manual for new technicians and organizes training for them.
Develops and maintains quality assurance standards for Pediatric Sleep Center.
Assists the Director of the Pediatric Sleep Center in interviewing candidates for technician positions. Also assists the Director in disciplining or terminating technical staff as required.
Independently and safely evaluates and supports a diverse patient population ranging from low acuity to acutely ill unstable patients. Effectively administers and titrates Oxygen therapy, Bi-PAP, and CPAP parameters to achieve appropriate oxygenation.
Only if also certified in respiratory therapy: Adjusts mechanical ventilator parameters to achieve appropriate ventilation. Monitors and reports exhaled tidal volumes.
Provides back up for technical staff by being on-call to relieve technicians in the event of emergencies; is available to perform daytime PSG and MSLT testing as needed.
Only if also certified in respiratory therapy: Is available to perform daytime ventilator assessment testing as needed.
Qualifications:
Required: Education/Experience - Certification as a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) with at least 2 years of experience in an AASM-accredited Sleep Disorders Center. Must have extensive experience with pediatric sleep patients.
Technical Skills - Knowledge of electronics and physiological measurement as applied to sleep technology and a good working knowledge of sleep disorders medicine.
Other Requirements - Diplomacy, good interpersonal communication and conflict management skills are required for working with patients, public and health care staff.
Credentialed as a respiratory therapist with Illinois licensure with at least 2 years of pediatric and/or neonatal RT experience is preferred. Proficiency in ventilator management and institution of non-invasive ventilator modalities as well as airway maintenance is preferred.
SCHEDULE:
Sunday through Thursday (to start). Will eventually move to Monday - Friday.
Shifts: Two 8-hour day shifts (between 8 am - 5pm) and two 12-hour overnight shifts (7 - 8 pm to 7 - 8 am). Will eventually move to days (between 8 am - 5 pm) Monday through Friday.
On-Call: To relieve technicians in the event of emergencies
