System Analyst Programmer Alzheimer's Disease Center

Job Location: Chicago, IL

The System Analyst Programmer will develop computer programs to manage study data working under the direction of the Manager Information Systems in maintaining a state of the art data management system for the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center (RADC), a multi-discipline research center with thousands of participants supporting dozens of longitudinal epidemiological studies.

Responsibilities:

  • Program clinical data collection forms in Blaise® (Statistics Netherlands, version 4.8), an Integrated Development Environment for the development of stand-alone forms and questionnaires which uses a structured Pascal-like coding language. This will sometimes require the programmer to be able to translate study collection needs into sound data collection instruments.

  • Program reports in Informix 4GL, Informix SQL and Java that are vital to the operations of the research projects.

  • Design and develop Web-based applications and study tools that collect and report on data efficiently with user-friendly interfaces.

  • Troubleshooting the systems that load the numerous data sources into our database and helping to maintain the server that holds as much as a million pieces of data.

  • Work with Manager Information Systems to design new and novel bioinformatics tools for study management.

  • Provide hardware and software support to the RADC including but not limited to ensuring that all staff PCs and laptops are functional, installing new software, setting up new PCs, maintaining records on licenses, and staying current new technologies which might be helpful to the center activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering

  • Ability to handle simultaneous complex projects

  • Proven attention to detail

  • Ability to solve problems efficiently, creatively, and precisely

  • Demonstration of expertise and previous experience in biomedical research preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in data programming, relational database design and experience with SQL and/or IBM Informix

  • Working understanding of current web technologies including AJAX, CSS, HTML, DOM and javascript frameworks such as Prototype and JQuery

  • Strong knowledge of the Java, including the Java EE 6 SDK and other third party libraries including the Spring Framework, JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, SiteMesh, Tomcat, Apache POI and iText
