General Summary: This position is responsible for providing direct support to the Director of Health Information Management (HIM) in effectively managing the operational activities of the HIM Department and the resources of Rush University Medical Group and it's faculty practices. Represent the Department in an internal and external capacity. Maintains a demeanor and appearance appropriate for representation of Rush University Exemplifies the Rush University Medical Center mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Represents department in interdepartmental committees on issues regarding data quality, accessibility to information, and department customer services.
* Provides departmental in-services on various topics related to medical record operations.
* Assists the Director in daily administrative duties and substitutes for the Director when the Director is unable to attend meetings.
* Works with Clinical Pertinence Team to provide oversight of ambulatory care clinical pertinence with particular responsibility for chart review, data input, data cleanup, and development of presentation materials.
* Works on conversion process from paper to electronic medical records.
* Assist director with oversight of new electronic record implementation and building plans.
* Assist the Director and Management Team in building a strong team concept.

* Work with the Director to plan, implement and administer the annual budget.

* Assist in maintaining departmental expenses within the confines of the annual budget, in accordance with the medical center policies and procedures.

* Hire, supervise and conduct performance appraisals for direct reports and coordinate all performance appraisals and disciplinary action for departmental management.

* Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation as appropriate.

* Assist in the development of objective and operational plans to ensure that HIM services reflect the latest methods and technologies for health information processing.

* Assist the Director in development of quality, performance and productivity standards for the HIM Department, and assist in ensuring all functions/work are reviewed on a regular, ongoing basis and reported as appropriate.

* Provide statistical data related to the department functions as required.

* Lead the HIM Department in review and improvement of functional process improvement.
* Maintains ongoing knowledge of all regulatory requirements (i.e. CMS, The Joint Commission, IDPH) as they relate to the management of information and communicates all pertinent standards and changes to clinics within RUMG.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:
Master's degree in health or business administration, R.H.I.A. or commensurate experience. Progressive management experience in an ambulatory setting. Proficiency in computer applications. Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Must have strong customer focus.


Knowledge: RHIA or RHIT preferred
Bachelors Degree
Masters Degree preferred
Health Information Management supervisory experience required

Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
Outstanding organizational and teambuilding skills
Proficient in MS Office and hospital information systems
Epic ambulatory experience preferred

Abilities: Ability to analyze and implement new systems and procedures
