Research Tech 3 Orthopedic Surgery
The Research Tech 3 under limited-to-general direction from Principal Investigator, will participate in established research laboratory or other technical procedures at a high level of technical proficiency.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Conducts patient follow up visits according to research studies design and criteria, including collection of pertinent patient history, study data and specimens; ensures proper acquisition of all.

Collaborates with patients, O.R. staff, and pathology personnel at Rush and off site to assure proper specimen acquisition (blood, urine and tissues) procedures are conducted by them.

Manages correspondence with study patients and numerous outside sites. Does so with punctuality and courtesy.

Provides autopsy retrieval team with current consent census and details regarding study candidates. Assists with patient recruitment efforts including mailings.

Retrieves samples. Assists with sample testing; rinses and labels vessels, assures samples and sequence are in agreement

Ensures cleanliness of vessels using established protocols. Initiates investigations into improving new cleaning protocols and new sources of supplies to improve productivity.

Processes blood samples as needed.

Collects and enters data into the research database. Updates RBASE designs to fit laboratory needs.

Maintains laboratory inventory; orders supplies as needed (tubes, acids, etc.), including off-sites as requested

Supports other research studies in the departments as needed.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and one to two years' experience in a laboratory environment conducting specific research testing procedures is required.

Please Note: This position requires frequent off-site travel.
Candidate must posses vehicle to travel to patients home or clinics to procure specimens is required.
