Post Doctoral Research Fellow BioChemistry

Job Location: Chicago, IL

Position Highlights:

The Post Doctoral fellow must be well trained in areas of immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. This person must have experience to lead a research project, designing experiments, interpreting results, supervising and training graduate students, and writing the manuscripts. Possess above average initiative and scientific interest and be perceptive to problems arising in experimental procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for sample collection and processing for histology, biochemical and gene expression analyses.

  • Process for immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging.

  • Process tissues and perform Western blotting and quantitative PCR. Develop new protocols as necessary, make arrangements to collaborate with appropriate faculty and staff to accomplish task.

  • Isolate cells from bone marrow, intestinal tissues and perform cell sorting or cytometric analyses

  • Culture cells in vitro and perform gene introduction using transfection or virus transduction, perform Western blotting, quantitative PCR or Northern blotting.

  • Make DNA vectors to achieve gene over-expression, silencing or mutation to perturb gene expression in vitro and in vivo

  • Complete and accurate documentation concerning the preparation methods, supplies and instruments, modifications of protocols.

  • Summarizes data periodically for analysis, in the forms of tables, graphs, photographs, and/or illustrations. Present research findings at national and international meetings and write manuscripts.

  • Attends lectures, conferences, workshops and visit other laboratories; teaches and assists trainees (graduate students and post-doctoral fellows) in routine biochemical analyses, data management and the preparation of appropriate reports, summaries and manuscripts.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • PhD degree in Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, or related field,

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant laboratory experience, immunohistochemistry and/or molecular biology.

  • Must have working knowledge of general office equipment, computers and system peripherals; safety techniques for handling infectious agents, hazardous chemicals and radioisotopes, and know the basic principle of small animal handling and experimentation.
