~SR Human Resources Consultant Employee Relations
The Senior Consultant, Employee Relations will provide guidance and counsel to management and employees regarding work-related issues, including the interpretation of policy and procedures, discipline, problem-solving, conflict resolution, contract interpretation, and labor-management relationship building.

Position Responsibilities:

Provide consultation and mediation regarding work-related issues, conflicts and discipline, policy/procedure questions, union contract interpretation to managers and employees.

Serve as Step III grievance hearing officer, including conducting the hearing and relevant investigation and preparing a written grievance response for union and non-union grievances.

Gather evidence and prepare responses for various discrimination and wage claims. Investigate and respond to claims, review all pertinent files, assist in brief preparation, and participate in other activities related to the resolution process.

Coordinate and assist the implementation of work force reductions, including selection decision review and union employee displacement. Counsel and advise management on appropriateness of department structure and staffing and participate in re-engineering processes as appropriate.

Conduct needs assessment and delivery of training on employee relations issues, policies and administrative procedures, including departmental in-services.

Participate in union negotiations, including collaboration with other Medical Center departments, data collection, drafting of contract language, and strategy discussions.

Participate in employee activities, including coordination of some key events such as Administrative Professionals Day Breakfast and the Rush Holiday party.

Coordinate project work as assigned, including action planning with managers based on feedback from employee population survey.

Provide leadership role in the orientation and training of administrative support staff.

Qualifications:

Minimum of Bachelors degree in Industrial Relations. Masters in Industrial Relations or J.D. preferred. Labor/Employment experience preferred.

A minimum of 5 years in employee/labor relations consultant role, or in a Human Resources related function required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience in working with P.C. based information systems with knowledge of spreadsheet applications.

Proven problem solving and planning skills.
