Schedule:

Sunday through Thursday: 12:00 Noon to 8:30 PM.

Major Responsibilities:

Skillfully performs routine and complex laboratory procedures in connection with all histology areas. All subsequent procedures and techniques in the histopathology laboratory are dependent upon optimal tissue processing, as well as the routine preventative maintenance functions.

Helps instruct students, residents, and new employees.

Essential & Critical Tasks:

Performs all histology duties with minimal supervision. Embeds and cuts tissue sections, prepares, stains, and labels slides according to established procedures.

Performs complex and non-routine procedures that are a part of their area of training such as special stains, immunohistochemistry, or electron microscopy.

Performs required QC procedures, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting, including documentation, for all procedures and instrumentation.

Meets turnaround time expectations by prioritizing and organizing daily workload. Takes initiative to assist others in time of need and consistently volunteers for extra duties or special projects.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate Degree and HT(ASCP) certified or eligible.

Experience: Two years of histology laboratory experience preferred.

Personal: Interacts effectively with peers, internal and external customers.

Reports to:

Laboratory Supervisor

Working Conditions:

Able to work in fast pace, often stressful, computerized environment. Able to lift 10 lbs and perform repetitive motions. Works in laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious materials.

ASCP Qualification for Testing:

Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform high complexity testing. Employees' education and/or laboratory experience meet the requirements of American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
