The Physician Assistant program in development at Rush University seeks a highly motivated, dynamic, and visionary PA to develop the academic curriculum for the program. Rush University is a nationally recognized health care training institution located in the Medical District of Chicago. The planned MS in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program is part of the College of Health Sciences. Duties include: developing and implementing learning and assessment tools for the didactic year courses; coordinate lectures and academic schedule; ensure effectiveness of curriculum towards meeting program mission, vision, and goals; and participating in general faculty activities such as research, service, teaching and student mentoring.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversight of didactic year curriculum
1. Report to the Program Director of the Physician Assistant program.
2. Establish learning goals and objectives for the didactic curriculum, consistent with ARC-PA Standards guidelines.
3. Develop and maintain didactic year assessment tools and assuring that the programs' academic competencies are completed for all students.
4. Responsible for maintaining the academic schedule
5. Foster communication with faculty and staff through meetings and/or consultation.
6. Coordinate students and faculty evaluations, ensure feedback is provided in a timely manner, and action plans are carried out to address performance deficiencies.
7. Ensure students are oriented to the Rush University Policies and Procedures.
8. Maintains records for completion of clinical competencies and evaluations associated with clinical rotations.
9. Establish and maintain appropriate clinical affiliate agreement(s) with clinical sites.
10. Assist with coordinating community service programs.
Faculty Responsibilities
1. Effectively teach assigned courses in the College of Health Sciences.
2. Promote evidence-based practice and research.
3. Generate and disseminate new knowledge in the field of medicine.
4. Serve on or Chair program and College committees.
5. Participate in the programs' or Department's clinical practice.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Chair
Qualifications include:
Must be a graduate of an ARC-PA accredited program, with NCCPA certification currency. Must also have or be in the process of attaining a Master's degree in a field related to the health sciences, education, or management. Having or in the process of attaining a doctorate in a field appropriate to providing academic leadership for the Physician Assistant profession is preferred.
Must have or be eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois.
Have at least three years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant. Additional experience in Physician Assistant education and training is strongly preferred.
