LEAD H I M TECH
General Summary:This is a fast paced position, which requires a well-organized, conscientious and structured individual. This position requires excellent organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have expert knowledge of all duties performed in the department. This individual must have the ability to prioritize tasks to assure a smooth flow of daily activities of the department. He/ she must assume a supervisory role in the absence of the manager. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures, including complying with all Rush University Medical Group Customer Service Standards.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Sets example for other staff in such areas as professionalism, demeanor, customer service, work ethics and dress appearance.
2. Proficient in performing all duties of the HIM technicians.
3. Provides input on employees' performance evaluation.
4. Provides input in the writing of department policies and procedures.
5. Oversees the chart copying process to all third parties payers and the copying service.
6. Oversees the maintenance of department equipment such as copier, fax machine and printers.
7. Monitors supplies and orders as appropriate via Omi-buyer and other providers.
8. Maintains database of Home Health Care's certification and recertification for reimbursement.
9. Maintains statistics of tasks performed in the department and prepares reports for administrative review.
10. Assists in the management of complex HIM related special projects; such as purging, merging MRN and setting up
database to retrieve charts from storage.
11. Provides back up support to the department and fills in as needed in the absence of staff.
12. Performs audits on tasks performed by technicians and report results to management staff.
13. Trouble shoots HIM related problems.
14. Performs other specific HIM related duties as assigned by the manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge & Skills:
* Some college or vocational training
* Proficient in computer use
* Previous health information experience
* Familiar with medical terminology
* Customer service skills
* Knowledge of the legal aspects of releasing medical record information

Abilities:
* Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment for a large group practice
* Detail oriented
* Highly motivated, self starter
* Ability to sit, stand for prolonged period of time, walk, lift up to 30 pounds
* Ability to work under pressure, handle difficult customers and demanding situations
