Rush University is excited to offer this PA training opportunity in our renowned medical facility. The innovative 33-month curriculum will utilize the extensive resources available at Rush University to provide an excellent training experience. The 12-month didactic phase will include lecture, small group discussion, and simulation-based training models to prepare students for clinical rotations. The unique, 21-month clinical training portion of the program will prepare students to practice as primary care providers, as well as provide a unique opportunity for advance practice experience in one of the following clinical areas: orthopedic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Position Responsibilities:
The role of the faculty member is to contribute to the educational, research, scholarship and service missions of the Physician Assistant Studies Program, the Department of Clinical Sciences, and the College of Health Sciences. The faculty member’s annual assignment is determined by the Director of the PA Studies Program and is based on the needs of the program and the department, as well as the faculty member’s interests and expertise. This faculty position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Serve as a primary instructor and lecturer for courses in the Physician Assistant Studies Program.
Design student assessment activities, and write and edit examination items as appropriate for the student’s academic training.
Provide support and advisement to students throughout their training in the program
Assist program director in reviewing and revising curriculum as appropriate for the student’s academic training.
Assist in facilitating student training while on clinical rotations and participate in clinical rotation site procurement and supervision, as needed.
Facilitate and mentor students in research activities.
Engage in research and other scholarly activities such as publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at local, state or national professional conferences.
Pursue external funding opportunities as they become available.
Represent the Program, the College of Health Sciences and Rush University and at professional conferences and seminars.
Position Qualifications Include:
Certified Physician Assistant with a Master’s degree in a field related to the health sciences, education, or management is required. (Having, or in the process of attaining, a doctorate in a field appropriate to academic leadership in the PA profession is highly preferred).
Must have or be eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois.
Must have at least three years of experience as a clinically practicing Physician Assistant.
Prior experience in PA education and course instruction is highly preferred.
