Advanced Practice Nurse
Part Time
The Advanced Practice Nurse works in collaboration with a physician as defined in an agreement consistent with the rules of the State of Illinois. The scope of practice is consistent with the physician specialty and the nurse's educational preparation. The Advanced Practice Nurse supports the mission of the College of Nursing (CON) and exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with CON and RUMC policies and procedures.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitate entry of clients into the health care system at the point of first contact.
Provide for health care that is comprehensive, spans the health continuum, and is coordinated and continuous.
Coordinate and monitor health care services with referral sources.
Provide health care services that include but are not limited to assessment, diagnosis, patient education, and treatment.
Maintain a practice that is within the scope of practice for Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) and the APN/Physician Collaborative Agreement.
Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and clinical outcomes.
Education
Facilitates the placement of APN students.
Serves as a preceptor to Rush University students.
Promotes education in the classroom, clinical setting, and community.
Maintains professional development within the advanced practice nursing role.
Research
Integrates research findings into specialty practice and teaching.
Identifies research questions and opportunities in the clinical setting.
Supports and participates in College of Nursing and University research activities.
Disseminates scholarly practice-based knowledge through publications and/or presentations.
Administration
Documents hours worked for self and staff as needed.
Maintains practice hours in accordance with assigned practice FTEs
Performs administrative and managerial functions in the assigned clinical site, which support the safe and effective care of clients.
Participates in peer review.
Participates in quality activities.
Collaborates with the Director of Faculty Practice to arrange for coverage during absences from clinical assignments.
Meets the needs and expectations of assigned clinic site.
Completes forms related to clinical collaborative agreements as required by state law and RUMC policy.
Requirements include:
Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse required
National certification in area of practice
Current State of Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse license
Master's Degree or higher in nursing
